V.V.A.R. on deterrence: THE HORROR AT THE HEART OF ISLAM

In a recent article, “The Bind the World Is In,” and other articles, we said this:
“Muslim thinking is very similar to that of the Old Testament in that if you follow God’s Law, in their case the Sharia, God will bless you. If you disobey, God will fail you. While the West tempers this formula with the experience of Job, who pointed out that bad things happen to good people, it is a very rigid formula for Muslims. So when things go wrong the world of Islam cries ‘Back to the Sharia,’ that legalistic horror based on, or derived from, the Koran, seen most clearly in the practices of the Taliban, in Saudi Arabia, in Nigeria and the Sudan, arms and legs cut off, people stoned, beaten, and executed for minor offenses.
“Wherever Muslims live under Sharia law adulterers are publicly flogged or stoned to death, sometimes before thousands of spectators in public stadiums. There are no rights for women or children, with women genitally mutilated, and beaten in the streets for the slightest infraction. They care nothing for other beliefs, about being fair, have no juries, no free speech. Television and radio are forbidden, music and dance prohibited. It is their way or execution, the death penalty, with no appeal, no delay. You are simply shot in the head where you stand, and your children shot before you. And these practices of the Sharia, once largely confined to the Middle East, even though mostly finished in Afghanistan, are now spreading to other parts of the world. In Indonesia, 83% Muslim, Muslim-Christian clashes have killed over 19,000 since 1999 and left over 600,000 displaced. In Bangladesh, 83% Muslim, an Al Qaeda group, the ‘Bangladeshi Taliban,’ attacked U.S. government offices in Calcutta, killing five, while thousands of supporters took to the streets shouting ‘Osama is our hero.’ Minority religions there suffer ghastly violence. Buddhists have been blinded, had fingers cut off and hands amputated, iron rods nailed through their abdomens, women and children have been gang-raped and hundreds of temples desecrated and thousands of houses looted and burned. Hindus also are subject to rape, torture, killing, and the destruction of cultural and religious identity at the hands of fanatical Muslims. In Nigeria, only 50% Muslim, vigilantes try to impose Sharia law by stoning, flogging and chopping off hands, as Nigeria undergoes a process of ‘Talibanization.’
The dream of Muslims that this stupifying tyranny will triumph over the world is utterly unbelievable.We doubt that any religion in history has ever held to such a barbaric code of morality. ‘Moderates’ may mean well. But they know in their hearts that their position does not represnt true Islam, and that their influence disappears when the masses retreat to the literal interpretation of the Koran.
If Muslin nations wish to correct what has gone wrong in their societies, the answer is not ‘Back to the Sharia.’ What they must do is break the hold of Islamic teaching, discard the Sharia, liberate their women, start to teach science and engineering, forget theocracy and turn to democracy. Unfortunately, this is unthinkable to the vast majority; it is literally sinful. It is heresy because the Sharia derives from the Koran, and the Koran is the Word of God, the road to salvation for them. It would be easier to change the modern world around them. But of course the modern world would never accept the monstrous brutalities of the Sharia. So that means war. And that is the nature of the bind the world is in.”
Robert Spencer has written what is probably the most useful book for the layman that we have on the subject of Islam, Islam Unveiled. He recently said this in an article with regard to the Sharia:
“The Indonesian terrorist group, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), demonstrated last week that the war on terror is not just an effort to prevent recurrences of September 11; it is a struggle for human rights. As JI celebrates its murder of fifteen people and the wounding of 150 more in a suicide attack on the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta last Tuesday, as well as the death sentence given Thursday to JI member Amrozi bin Nurhasyim, the “smiling bomber” who murdered 202 people in Bali last October, it is instructive to remember that JI is doing all this killing for the Sharia. The Sharia is the classic code of Islamic law that mandates stoning for adulterers and amputation for thieves, disallows a rape victim’s testimony in her own case, and hamstrings freedom of conscience by prescribing death for apostates from Islam and those who have blasphemed the Prophet . JI, al-Qaeda’s southeast Asian affiliate, dreams of the day when the Sharia holds sway over the entire world. The supreme court of Afghanistan on Thursday upheld death sentences for two journalists, Sayeed Mahdawi and Ali Reza Payam for criticizing what they called the “holy fascism”(Sharia) that still holds sway in some parts of Afghanistan. A court in Pakistan on Tuesday sentenced another man, Bashir Ahmed, to death for making “derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet and his companions.” The Jordanian parliament rejected on Islamic grounds a measure that would have led to stiff penalties for “honor killings”: the barbaric murder of young women by family members who believe that they have committed adultery, thereby shaming the family honor.
Draconian blasphemy laws, appallingly loose divorce laws (for men only), a totalitarian resistance to self-criticism, institutionalized brutality and oppression of women - these are the features of the Sharia law that forms the centerpiece of JI’s dream state. Their path to this utopia is stained with the blood of the nightclubbers, businessmen and bystanders that JI is rejoicing over having slaughtered in Indonesia. The events recounted above illustrate why everyone who values freedom and basic human rights should oppose the Sharia, not just in Iraq or Indonesia, but everywhere that it hinders the liberty of human beings - including Saudi Arabia. After all, moderate Muslims still have not answered the nagging question of why, if Islam forbids terrorism and the Koran teaches nonviolence, have so many devout Muslims around the world misinterpreted it so thoroughly and repeatedly. Where are the moderate Muslims who can teach, not Western non-Muslims, but their fellow Muslims that Islam is peaceful? If the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other Muslim advocacy groups really want to demonstrate that “Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy and forgiveness that should not be associated with acts of violence against the innocent,” let them definitively renounce the Sharia for which JI kills, and which brings anything but peace and mercy to those who must suffer under it. Let them work to create in the United States a truly moderate Islam that accepts the principles of Western secular society and coexistence with non-Muslims. If they do not do this, it is clear: history will judge them as being on the wrong side of this great struggle for the rights of mankind.”
Islam is absolutely on the wrong side of the struggle for human rights. The Koran does not forbid terrorism nor does it teach non-violence. Furthermore, according to its most basic principles, it cannot accept the principles of modern secular society or co-existance with non-Muslims. The mission of Islam is to either convert the whole world, or kill the unbelievers.
Wherever Muslims are in a minority, the Sharia remains hidden. But wherever Muslims are in the majority, there will always be forces straining to impose “pure Islam,” or the Sahria, on that society. And any civilized society will fight that horror to the death.
We don’t know it yet but we are at war with Islam, not just the terrorists. And American universities should stop teaching students sugary nonsense about Islam and start telling them the truth.
When you consider the bind involved in the current Islamic expansionism, that they either succeed in conquest and then impose the Sharia, or fail, in which case the command is to kill all unbelievers, the free world should be working day and night on a plan to deter this insanity. Our current “terrorist-by-terrorist” approach cannot possibly work. One hand-held missile aimed at a plane could paralyze our society, as could the loss of one major city, say Washington. And we know for a certainty that they intend to do that. Therefore, a plan must be implemented immediately that will insure that the cost to the Muslim world of such an attack would be the loss of the entire Muslim bloc of nations. Nothing less than a policy of mutually assured destruction (MAD) will deter them. While terrorists will sacrifice themselves to enter Paradise, it must be for a cause, in this case the furtherance of Islam. If they know such a sacrifice will hurt that cause, it might deter them. “Might,” because these are very irrational people, but it must be tried as the only solution that might work. Our proposal, already published once, is that the free world ring the Muslim bloc with massed armies and threaten to invade at the slightest hint of an attack on us. And we may have to eradicate all vestige of the Islamic religion, beginning with the destruction of Mecca. A religon this much in love with violence and death has no place on this planet. On the other hand, imagine the anguish of the American people if, after the loss of millions in a city, our mighty military forces don’t know where to strike in retaliation, as is the case at present. Don’t know where to strike to even deter it from happening again. The situation is a strategic nightmare. Our leaders must start working on some such plan immediately.
As Benjamin Netanyahu, former prime minister of Israel, said in a recent article, “Most Americans understand that had Al Qaeda possessed an atomic device on 9/11, the city of New York would not exist today. They realize that on the last 9/11 memorial day we could have grieved not for thousands of dead, but for millions. It appears that people will have to once again see the unimaginable materialize in front of their eyes before they are willing to do what must be done.”
The free world is just sitting here, waiting for destruction, with no plan to deter the enemy. It must act now, before it is too late.
As draconian as it might seem, only the above plan would qualify as the “creative” response needed to save a civilization, as in Toynbee’s famous formula of “challenge and creative response.”
