student war against left - V.V.A.R. CALLS ON VIETNAM VET GROUPS, THEMSELVES ONCE BETRAYED BY THE LEFT, TO HELP AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS STRUGGLING TO FREE THEMSELVES FROM THE LIES OF TODAY'S LEFTISTS. A 17 YEAR -OLD AT SANTA MONICA HIGH IS LEADING THE WAY.

Last month we summarized for you an article that greatly disturbed us, written by Steve Miller, a 17 year-old at Santa Monica High School in California. Here is the essence of what he wrote then:

“There is a war going on in America, a war of ideology. It’s being waged in public schools like mine. Those running the school and teaching the students have such deeply held left-wing beliefs that they cannot help but spread their agenda to the young people. This is evidenced in nearly every facet of the school and has resulted in the indoctrination of thousands of students, some unaffected, but many more misinformed, misguided, and misdirected. Subsequent to 9/11, the school newspaper condemned the notion of a military response and a Muslim leader was brought to the school to explain the glory and splendor of Islam. My history teacher handed out a lengthy article lambasting the United States as absolutely wicked and also condemned the notion of a military response.”

Yesterday a new article by Steve, even more disturbing, appeared in FrontPageMag. We have been in contact with him and he wrote: “You are free to quote from my article and I am glad that it was of help to you.” Here, slightly abbreviated, is what he said about the past school year:

“My teachers compared this country to the worst regimes in world history while excusing the atrocities of its enemies. History courses routinely omitted essential components of U.S. history - everything from the pioneers to the Second Amendment - while spending an inordinate amount of time condemning this nation’s past. My history teacher told us that our nation’s past fears about Communism were unjustified, in fact, that capitalism was the sinister force in the world.

“Students were informed that the U.S. could be termed a “fascist” country, and some teachers actively encouraged students to protest against the war in Iraq.

“Not only was the teaching politically driven, but so was the grading. I personally received poor grades for expressing conservative viewpoints and a number of other students also found themselves victims of this unethical grading procedure.

“The Administration openly disobeyed the California Educational Code requirement for a daily recital of a patriotic oath, such as the Pledge of Allegiance, and also tried to prevent both talk show host Larry Elder and best-selling author David Horowitz from speaking on campus, although they allowed a Communist to speak.

“Their bias has had a devastating effect on student education. Students I spoke with were terribly uneducated about a variety of political issues, lacking the basic information with which to make their own determination. How can we expect students to make reasoned decisions if they are only getting half the story?

“In a poll I conducted I found that students who did not know that Saddam Hussein gassed the Kurds and invaded Kuwait were four times more likely to not support the war than students who knew both pieces of information. But few at this school knew this.

“Many students feel no patriotism toward America whatsoever. The polls found that over 60% of students do not salute the flag. More than 1/3 of the kids were not even willing to say they were proud to be American, and a monumental 40% felt that America itself was unjust. Even before I had scientific evidence of my high school’s hard-left bent, I had resolved to challenge the campus indoctrination machine... because of the school’s resonse to the 9/11 attacks. During that time of national tragedy, anti-Americanism had spread all over the school like a rash. The co-principle broadcast his doubts about the morality of toppling the Taliban to the entire school via the PA system. One teacher even dragged the American flag across the floor! It was then I first took action, writing to radio personality Larry Elder, who invited me to discuss the issues on his program, which immediately drew the ire of the teachers, administrators, and even some of my fellow students. My friend Chris and I invited Larry Elder to speak on campus and he agreed right away but was turned down by the administration. Chris and I invited David Horowitz to speak at the school as well. At first, the school canceled the event 48 hours before it was scheduled to take place, but thanks in large part to Larry Elder’s radio campaign, the school eventually let  Horowitz speak.

“I then began to gather indisputable evidence of bias and placed pressure on the school. In turn, they continued to receive calls and letters asking for a stop to the indoctrination. Once after an article came out that they were particularly unhappy about, I was brought into the office with a security escort. The superintendent even made veiled threats of reprisal against me. But because my criticisms were accurate, ... changes started to take hold. We began to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day, and the principle also had a teacher take down a “Buck Fush” bumper sticker from a classroom. Then a tax increase initiative on the ballot failed, and I was named the prime cause. I let them know this election was a wake-up call, demonstrating massive public disapproval. Next came the miraculous. First the principal wrote a memo instructing all teachers to discuss the war in a an even-handed way. This was followed by a groundbreaking directive issued by the superintendent, fulfilling the key request of my campaign - it required every teacher to maintain a politically neutral environment.

“I hope patriotic members of the faculty will become more vocal. At the end of the year I discovered that many teachers were behind me, but they were not open about it, fearing reprimands from the leftist establishment. The readers of this article can call the school (at 310-395-3204) or the district (at 310-450-8338) and thank them for again making the classroom a place of integrity.

“This kind of change can occur at any school. The key is to gain access to the press, and to be vigilant about keeping pressure on the school or university. Write letters and articles to the editor, use the internet, hand out flyers, write to radio show hosts and reporters. Legitimately threaten their money supply. In the ’70s students started a political revolution on campus. Now it is time for a counter-revolution - one characterized by pro-American sentiments. Acting together we can succeed. Of that, I am certain.” -Steve Miller

Steve has since graduated and moved on to a major university where I am sure he will find and meet new challanges. However, the beachhead he fought for and won at Santa Monica High must not be allowed to regress. I call on everyone reading this to call the numbers above and tell them, for example, you want the leftists teachers that are brainwashing our students fired. No more trying to reason with these fanatics, just fire them, in our high schools, in our universities. Whatever you say to them, if you will make these calls and let me know, I will send out a press release on this growing movement all over the country. Also, plan some sort of recognition for Steve Miller and call in the press. Let’s let Santa Monica High be the Bastille of the counter-revolution he has called for.

Now in light of what one determined and patriotic 17 year-old was able to accomplish, just imagine what adults, especially groups of, say, Vietnam vets could do to help this cause. Talk to students at your local schools, find out what is going on, make a big public stink, bring in the media, raise the issues.

As soon as the fall semester begins here at the Univ. of Kansas, the student auxiliary of Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform will be calling for September [2003] to be proclaimed national “Truth to Campus” month. This is to be the opening salvo calling for truth about the three issues most lied about on campuses everywhere: Vietnam, evolution, and Islam. If you have anything in the way of a program on these issues that you can offer to your local schools, please let them know about it for September. Those of you who are Vietnam vets and teachers or professors can focus on telling the truth about the Vietnam War, using all of the great new books and films that are rolling back the 60’s mythology on this subject, such as the book, A Better War (Sorley), The Long Way Home Project (film, the Cranes) and Silent Victory (documentary).
