NEWSLETTER: PENTAGON PROOF NOTHING NEW. WE EXPOSED THE SADDAM/al-QAEDA CONNECTION IN 2003.

Also, More on Media Cover-up

March 22, 2006

By Leonard Magruder

The Pentagon yesterday posted pre-war documents, some of which showed links between Saddam and al-Qaeda.The documents were released by the Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte. They showed the Iraq regime had cooperated with the bin Laden group to strike the U.S.

The material released made it clear that Osama bin Laden had been in contact with Iraq and had visited Baghdad. Less than a year after the 9/11 attacks, Saddam’s government had identified at least one active al-Qaeda cell in the country. Also identified in the material was abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who later emerged as a leading terrorist leader in Iraq. In 2003, a 16-page,top-secret government memo to the Senate Intelligence Committee said bin Laden and Saddam had an operational relationship between the early 1990’s and 2003 that involved training in explosives and weapons of mass destruction, as well as financial and logistical support, and may have been involved in the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole and the 9/11 attacks.

In 2003 Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform sent out the article below, revealing at that time many of the points that appear in the new Pentagon release. This is just one example of a number of documented articles released by this organization related to national security, but ignored by the national wire services and the local media, such as “The Lawrence Journal-World” and “The University Daily Kansan.”

This shows once again how the bias of the mainstream media, so eager to criticize the Bush administration, is exposing Americans to mortal danger by keeping them in ignorance of material critical to national security. Two leftist modes of analysis, spread by indoctrination from the university to the media, account for this: ‘multiculturalism,’ and ‘moral equivalence’. Between them they keep America paralyzed in the face of the greatest danger it has ever faced. Other articles we sent out involving national security that were suppressed are listed following the article below.

Released in February, 2003. The news items came from Europe, but were generally not passed on in America. Ccommentary follows.

In front page articles around the nation yesterday, Democrat and other critics said there can be no link between al-Qaeda and Iraq, as suggested by Bush, because of ideological differences and lack of evidence. We suggest they just don’t do their homework. Is the national media gearing up for a replay of the tricks they used in reporting on the Tet Offensive? We urge everyone to watch the liberal media very closely. We know from CBS-insider Bernard Goldberg how biased it is (Goldberg: Arrogance: Rescuing America from the Media Elite).

Iraq tempts bin Laden to attack West - Exclusive.

By: Ian Bruce, Geopolitics Editor.

“The world’s most wanted man, Osama bin Laden, has been offered sanctuary in Iraq if his worldwide terrorist network succeeds in carrying out a campaign of high-profile attacks on the West.”

Agence France Presse. February 17, 1999.

Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein plans to use alleged terrorist Osama bin Laden’s network to carry out his threats against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, an Iraqi opposition figure charged on Wednesday. Jaber, a member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), said Iraq had ‘offered to shelter bin Laden under the precondition that he carry out strikes on targets in neighboring countries.’”

Deutsche Presse-Agentur. February 17, 1999, Wednesday, BC Cycle.

“Militant Osama bin Laden is in Iraq from where he plans to launch a campaign of terrorism against Baghdad’s Gulf neighbors. Bin Laden recently settled in Iraq at the invitation of Saddam Hussein in exchange for directing strikes against targets in neighboring countries.

“Classified intelligence behind a recent FBI alert indicates nuclear devices or materials have been obtained from Iraq that intelligence has linked to high-level al-Qaeda leadership. Much of this intelligence derives from a special Pentagon task force created by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld following the 9/11 attacks. Rumsfeld ordered a team of defense officials outside regular intelligence channels to focus on unearthing details about Iraq’s ties to al-Qaeda and other terrorist networks by meticulously analyzing existing and real-time intelligence on terrorism and Iraq.

“The product of this extraordinary undertaking is said to have disclosed heretofore unknown ties between bin Laden’s al-Qaeda organization and Iraq. Pentagon officials also recently confirmed that a number of senior al-Qaeda leaders have taken refuge in Iraq.

“The subject of Iraqi ties to al-Qaeda was the subject of briefings given to select lawmakers in September that focused almost exclusively on Saddam’s nuclear -weapons capability and his suspected transference of these capabilities to al-Qaeda.

“This summer, Vice-President Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Tenet outlined for senior congressmen the scope of NSA-collected ‘signals intelligence’ (SIGINT) from satellites of contacts between Baghdad, Iraq, and al-Qaeda before and after the September 11 terror attacks. Intelligence sources say the SIGNIT ‘definitely’ involved discussion of nuclear weapons of interest to al-Qaeda.

“Rumsfeld said, ‘Intelligence on these contacts has been increasing since 1998,’ and has expanded to include ‘credible evidence’ that al-Qaeda leaders sought contact in Iraq for assistance in acquiring WMDs.

“Intelligence sources say the White House has evidence - of which the United Nations long has been aware, - according to former UN Iraq nuclear-weapons inspector David Kay that Iraq successfully built and tested a variety of dirty bombs and has the technological know-how and materials to construct them and which may have been made available to al-Qaeda. U.S. intelligence concluded long ago that it was possible for Iraq to build a radiological dispersal device. Top-secret Iraq nuclear-weapons documents later obtained by U.N. weapons inspectors prove Iraq successfully tested several types of the bombs.

“Top intelligence officials have told Insight Magazine (a source for this article) about Saddam’s possible possession of portable tactical nuclear weapons bombs. Said one official, “In intelligence parlance the likelihood that Iraq has these bombs and that it may have provided some to al-Qaeda is ‘B-percent’, which means “highest degree of probability.” These portable nuclear devices were built by the former Soviet KGB and are believed to have enough destructive power to level a major inner-city area.

“Several dozen of the weapons were never recovered following the U.S.S.R.’s collapse. Intelligence sources say that in early 1990s Iraq was provided with two of these portable nuclear bombs by ex-KGB officials. The evidence is in the form of both electronic-communications intercepts and spy-satellite imagery collected at the time.

Commentary:

In searching for the hard-core intelligence in this material we note the following:

Much of the information came from unnamed “intelligence sources” which may or may not be accurate. In these cases we have to trust the writer or investigative reporter. In some of the information provided the source in named, as in the case of David Kay, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Tenet.

The core of the argument is that, whether through missing nuclear devices obtained from the Soviet Union, or through their own efforts, Iraq has, or at one time had, possession of weapons of mass destruction. It is also clear that there was an extensive contact between al-Qaeda and Iraq, and it is clearly and reasonably believed by the experts that Iraq gave such devices to bin Laden, especially as it became more probable that Iraq would be invaded.

In any case the main point is that Iraq did have WMD at some point, and the Bush administration chose not to accept Saddam’s claim that they no longer existed. With Saddam’s reputation as a liar, war on Iraq was therefore a very rational decision by the Bush administration. Had it not done so it is reasonably certain that Saddam would have revived his nuclear program and then shared it with al-Qaeda.

Pre-emptive attack has always been a necessary part of national security doctrine. It is as simple as shooting someone before he shoots you with a gun you can see and realize he is about to use. Preventive attack is more complicated as its success relies on the accuracy of intelligence telling of a hidden threat to the nation. This can be ambiguous, as we now know with 20/20 hindsight, or it can be totally accurate, as the intelligence that allowed us to block a terrorist plot to explode 12 American passenger planes over the Pacific in the Bojinka plot. Probability estimates are necessarily involved but decisions such as in the case of Iraq must eventually be made. Both concepts are absolutely necessary in a war against terrorists. There is no huge moral issue involved as claimed by anti-war critics.

The new Pentagon documents released March 17, 2006, pretty well support what we put together in our 2003 article. More support comes from General Tom McInerney, the Fox News Military Analyst. He just returned from a second visit to Iraq. This is what he said of the newly released Pentagon documents and audiotapes of Saddam Hussein’s conversations with his key officials in an interview March 20th with FrontPage Magazine:

“I just reviewed this additional release of documents. This release continues to confirm that Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda were in contact with Iraq intelligence for sanctuary, training, and plans for acts of terrorism against the U.S. and in the U.S. This supports 12 hours of tapes we heard of Saddam Hussein’s that discussed using proxies (Al Qaeda) to attack the U.S. with WMD, nuclear or biological. Some people are still in denial even with the latest release as it gets in the way of their agenda.

“It was a fascinating experience to see the transcripts of Saddam’s conversations. He discussed hiding WMDs from the UN inspectors and knowing where the inspectors were going to go in advance. He discussed their efforts to develop Plasma Enrichment for nuclear weapons totally unknown to the UN inspectors. But the most telling to me was the conversation between Tariq Aziz, his foreign minister, and Saddam in which they discussed having proxies implant nuclear and biological weapons in U.S. cities.”

A press release just in from ABC News reports that their Investigative Unit found that the “documents discuss Osama bin Laden, weapons of mass destruction, al Qaeda and more. One Iraqi Intelligence document reported that “Osama bin Laden and the Taliban are in contact with Iraq and members of the two groups had visited Iraq.” Also, that “the U.S. has proof the Iraqi government and bin Laden’s group agreed to attack targets inside America.”

In spite of the emerging clear evidence, the ABC editor, afraid this report might get Bush off the ropes, muddied the waters by adding this: “The controversial claim that Osama bin Laden was cooperating with Saddam Hussein is an outgoing matter of intense debate.” Sorry. The “controversy” is over. But it is certain that the mainstream news networks are going to find some excuse to withhold these developments from the American people.

The Enemy We Face - April 26, 2004

In light of massive misinformation about the war on terrorism by university and media, we outline the danger to the world posed by Islam and propose that America warn the Muslim world now of catastrophic nuclear retaliation if an American city is hit.

(General McInerny commented on this :

Interviewer:  Your new book instructs that we must go after the state sponsors of terrorism in order to win the terror war. You even argue that some nations might have to be invaded by U.S. forces. Can you talk a bit about this strategy and what it entails?

McInerney: There existed a Web of Terror group of nations before 9/11. They were Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and North Korea. Three have been removed two by regime change and Libya voluntarily. Iran is now our most serious threat and the regime must be changed - but I would use the Afghanistan model using covert operations with massive coalition air support. We should help the Iranian people take back their country. )

Liberal Hypocrisy! - June 24, 2005

A collection of ignorant remarks by professors regarding the meaning of 9/11. Karl Rove absolutely right. Liberals have no clue. Demonstrates the danger to the nation from left/liberal academics. While Israeli parents scrape their children off the sidewalks hordes of anti-Semitic American professors are rooting for the suicide bombers.

Veterans’ Victory! - November 24, 2004

80% Vietnam vet vote against Kerry a massive repudiation of 30 years of university and media lies about Vietnam. This is largely a story of how Vietnam vets exposed the media lies for Kerry, includes the role played by Magruder’s vet group. The media really tried to hide this one.

Articles on Islam

Seven of the most important and insightful articles on Islam and terrorism from the Web, plus extracts from eight articles by Mr. Magruder that began July 1, 2003. Articles to educate America regarding the real danger it faces, to hopefully make up for the baby talk people are getting from the media and the university.

Vietnam and the Media, a 10- part series.

Details extended clashes with the media over the Vietnam War. Widely reproduced. Vietnam is of relevance to the current crisis because the lies that campus and media told then are being recycled to betray current national policy.

Manifesto Against Leftist Tyranny

21 page collection of campus horrors resulting from decades of increasing leftist influence on campuses leaving students totally ignorant on the current world crisis. A massive assault on student rights and academic freedom.
