Don and Annette Hall’s September 2006 visit with F/51st LRS Day 1—18 September 2006 HALO Drop Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4) The F/51st LRS unit invited us to watch the training of new members that the unit was conducting the week of September 18, 2006. We spent four days at Ft. Bragg with the men, and were treated very graciously. SFC Jason Skane and SGT Brian Connor, the two men whom the CO, CPT Isaac Rademacher, assigned to escort us around post (Annette more aptly described them as our babysitters), were wonderful to work with. They made sure we were comfortable, well fed, and got to see as much of F/51st LRS in action as possible. They answered all our questions and kept us very busy. We couldn’t have asked for better guides. On day 1, we watched a HALO jump. At first, the HALO jumpers were nothing but pinpoints in the sky. They floated down silently, gradually once they were on the ground, loaded down with all the equipment they had jumped with, they headed out on foot to their POIs (points of interest). While the HALO jump was going on, others were preparing for an overnight forced march.
The C.O. keeps constant track of everything that’s happening with his men.
The jumpers are just black dots in the sky at this point.
